Thirty, Fun-filled Days left in Fourth!

The next two months will be full of exciting activities.  First we will be testing (CRT) beginning this week. Please make sure your child is getting a full night's rest and eating a healthy breakfast! The testing will end May 8th.  It is difficult for a student to make a test up and so, we encourage perfect attendance during this time.  Check with your individual teacher for a complete schedule.

This Thursday, the 22nd, the PTA is sponsoring a Walk-a-Thon.  A highly-energized afternoon is planned with many prizes, silent auction gift baskets, and food! Registration begins at 3:30. Walkers will start at 4:00 p.m. and be done at 5:00 p.m.  Following will be pizza, one piece FREE for each walker and $1.00 per piece after that. Our PTA has worked hard to put this together. Let's support our PTA!

On May 13, each class will have a poetry program called "Poetry in the Park" and we encourage parents to join us.  We will mostly be in the Kiva, with refreshments outside.  We look forward to seeing you there.  Each teacher will be sending invitations with information about the specific time.

We have been writing 4th graders from Deerfield Elementary and the students are excited to meet their pen pals on May 14th, Friday.  Students will be playing games first and then eating lunch. This event will be at the Heritage Park which joins the school playground.

Ahoy Mateys! May 19th is the dance festival with this year's theme: A Day at The Movies.  It will be at Lone Peak High School and start at 12:30.  Our movie theme song is "Pirates of the Caribbean". We are asking students to wear jeans rolled up to the knees (to give the knicker look) and also a white t-shirt. We will provide some accessories. Wearing an eye patch, painting on whiskers, and/or wearing an earring are optional.

Get your pioneers clothes ready for Pioneer Day on May 21st.  We will be having many activities that day and we hope many parents will join us.  We are especially needing help with running the stations. If you are interested, please contact your child's teacher.

Thank you for your continual support.  We could not have an outstanding 4th grade without your help. We enjoy partnering with you! Thanks for having amazing 4th graders! We will miss them.

Past Meets the Present with Pioneer Day

Our 4th Grade Team has decided to have a Pioneer Day on Friday, April 2nd.  We encourage all students to dress up in Pioneer clothing or western clothing.  Students will have the opportunity to experience some of the activities that were popular among the Pioneers.  Stick Pull, Marbles, Gunny Sack Races, and even making butter are just a few of the activities we have planned.  We are looking for parent volunteers to help. Please contact your child's teacher if you can make it.  Feel free to come and enjoy the day with us!

Cedar Ridge 4th Graders to Meet the Governor

On Wednesday, the 3rd of March, the 4th Graders will travel to Salt Lake City to meet the Governor and tour the Capitol as well as the Governor's Mansion. In order to accomplish everything in our fun-filled day, all students will need to come to school at 8:00 a.m. making it a COMMON START DAY.  Students will be dismissed to go home at 2:15.  Please make sure students are dressed in nice clothes (no holes in jeans) and wear good walking shoes.  If your student is signed up for a home lunch, please make sure his/her lunch bag is well labeled with their name.

Multiplication Facts - Beat the Clock

Does your student need more practice with the multiplication facts? We have found a new website to play and learn by working against the clock!  As you probably know, we have cut the time in half for the multiplication tests.  They need to do 25 problems in ONE MINUTE.  Click on the LINK to the right of this post.  Scroll down to the bottom to see the different ways to beat the clock.

Once upon a time...GET YOUR STORIES READY!

Fourth Graders will be participating in the Storytelling Festival in February.  They were given a paper about this requirement about a week ago.  They should be preparing a story to be presented the week of February 8th in the classroom.  The story can be a folktale, a fairytale, a version of a favorite book, or even an original composition.  We ask that the stories are between  - two and three minutes long.  Props are okay to use.  The story is to be memorized and in the student's own words.  Two winners will be selected to advance to the school wide competition.  Good luck!

Animal Reports, Book Reports, Multiplication Changes

The 4th Graders are rotating assignments for the new year.  Some classes will be working on book reports, while other will be working on their animal reports.  Please watch for papers coming home to help your student with their project.  Thanks for your support!

Our Ice Cream Celebration for Multiplication happened right before the Christmas break.  Everyone enjoyed an ice cream sundae!  Now students have a new challenge.  The new time for passing the test is cut in half, from 2 minutes to 60 seconds.  Another change is that students will be graded for each test.  We will start at 2's and continue through 10's again. USE THE NEW LINK TO THE RIGHT "FUN MULTIPLICATION GAMES" TO HAVE YOUR STUDENT REVIEW! MY FAVORITE IS SNOWBALL FIGHT!
